It’s Finally Happening

I’ve been on two concurrent journeys over the past 15 years. One involves joke-telling and the other involves homeownership. And both of them are about to collide next month in the best way possible.

What’s Behind and What’s Coming

Before I reveal what’s coming, I need to share a little context for what I’ve been up to this whole time. Here are several important dates that have led me to this point in my life:

  • February 5, 2010 – I lost my job shortly after my first child was born, beginning a year of tightening finances.
  • March 3, 2010 – I started a part-time job at a company that had someone read a Laffy Taffy joke at company meetings once a week.
  • October 1, 2010 – I became full-time at my job, and I asked to share my own original jokes at company meetings.
  • October 27, 2012 – I came up with my 365th joke, and I kept making more of them after that.
  • November 15, 2012 – I finished the first version of my joke book with one joke for every day of the year. I would make about 20 versions in the next 13 years.
  • February 28, 2013 – I closed on the purchase of my home and moved in shortly after.
  • May 1, 2013 – I made the first payment on my 30-year mortgage.
  • August 3, 2022 – I made the final payment on my mortgage, paying it off more than 20 years early.
  • March 14, 2025 – I obtained the first 100 copies of my joke book from a local printing company.

And now we’re finally at the present day. There is one more event that is yet to come, and it will be the crowning achievement of both of these series of events:

  • April 26, 2025 – I’m going to throw a mortgage-burning party where I’ll give away my joke book to as many people as I can who have asked for it over the years.

Worth the Wait

It took me a while after paying off my house to throw a mortgage-burning party because I had a few financial setbacks in 2023 and 2024. I think I had those hard times partly in order to give me time to finish my joke book. I’ve been working on that for a long time, and I wanted to get it right with the best possible jokes.

Looking back on my first version of that book, I can see that it had a few gems, but it was far from perfect. I had to think of more than 1,000 additional jokes to ensure that I only included great ones in the final product. I’m no longer worried that someone could read it and be disappointed. It’s now packed with some of the funniest jokes you’ll ever hear.

For anyone who’s interested in attending my mortgage-burning party and getting a copy of my joke book, please send me a message through the Contact form on this website. The party will be in Orem, Utah, and JDawgs will be catering. They’re a delicious local hotdog restaurant.

For everyone who has been asking me when my joke book will be available, the day has finally arrived! And it’s worth the wait.

This is the Deja Reviewer bidding you farewell until we meet again.
