Question: What do you a call a tribute to getting out of debt?
Answer: Ode!
And I felt I owed it to my wonderful readers to share this poem I wrote in the midst of paying off my mortgage at the start of this month. I now have zero debt. Such a momentous occasion deserves an ode. And I call this “Ode to the Bank.”
I hope you enjoy it.
In truth, I’m not a fan of credit.
There, I went ahead and said it.
To me, my debt was like a hungry beast
That I constantly fed while getting fleeced.
A bank loaned me money at a low interest rate.
But, even then, I could not wait
To pay it off and get out from under its thumb,
To live eating the whole slice, not just a crumb.
“Why the rush?” you rightly might ask.
“Paying off a mortgage is no easy task.”
I know it’s not normal to live in this way,
But I like to be different, what can I say?
I want to thank my friends and neighbors
For putting up with me during these labors.
My lawn hasn’t always been perfectly kept.
When it comes to gardening, I’m totally inept.
However, I think this has all been worthwhile.
As I look at my house, I’ll be able to smile
Because it’s paid for and mine, without mortgage or lien.
What improvements I’ll make to it are yet to be seen.
I couldn’t have done this without my wonderful wife.
When we got married, I promised her a comfortable life.
For nine and a half years, we faced this challenge together,
Though, from here on out, we’ll be debt-free forever!
This is the Deja Reviewer bidding you farewell until we meet again.
