Miracles Often Take Time

Despite the hard time I’m going through right now, I believe it is a miracle that is unfolding little by little. One of my sisters told me something beautiful recently to cheer me up. She said, “You have people both here and on the other side of the veil pulling for you.” It made me so happy to know that she, too, believes in angels. She is one of them in my life.

I’ve felt the truth of her words. On May 22, I was laid off from a job I had held for 15 years. I hadn’t done anything wrong, but my time had finally come. Thankfully, I didn’t have to fear for three reasons:

  • I trust in God to see me through this hard time
  • I have followed wise counsel to get out of debt and prepare for emergencies
  • Angels are reaching out to me on both sides of the veil

I’d like to explain what I mean by each of these points below. If you’re going through a similarly hard time, you may find hope from what I’m about to share.

I Trust in God

Through the prophet Malachi, the Lord said, “Prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” (Malachi 3:10) The way we prove the Lord is by faithfully paying tithing (one-tenth of our income) and relying upon Him to bless us.

I have found that ancient promise to be true. Back in early 2010, I was struggling. My wife and I had a newborn baby, and I had just lost my job in similar fashion to a couple months ago. Between food and rent costs, we were running out of money fast. But through it all, we were determined to pay our tithing on every paycheck we got as I took part-time work to try to make ends meet.

Things got pretty dire after six months of earning less than we spent, despite our attempts at frugality. With the Lord’s help, I was able to get full-time employment that paid for our expenses just as we were about to run out of money in our savings account. The Lord came through for us. If we had held onto that 10 percent of each paycheck, we might have looked more financially sound on paper. But we would have missed out on great blessings from heaven.

I believe the Lord can do the same miracle for me this time. However, He has already blessed me in ways I hadn’t experienced in 2010.

I Have Prepared

This time is much different than my situation 15 years ago. Back then, I was living in an apartment, and I had to come up with a rent payment at the start of each month. In 2013, I got a mortgage and moved into a house. Following the counsel of wise prophets and other leaders, I paid off that mortgage in 2022. I spent the next three years saving for a rainy day until I had a year supply of money in case anything were to go wrong.

I don’t believe in random chance. Coincidences are quite often heavenly gifts. The reason I say this is it just so happens that the month after I got to my savings goal, I lost my job. Exactly what I was preparing for happened right on cue, as if God had been preparing me for that moment. So there was no fear when I heard the words that I was no longer employed. Instead, I was filled with peace, knowing that I had done everything to get ready for this precise situation.

I know in Whom I have trusted, and I know that He will see me through this. It’s not clear yet how things will turn out. I’m doing my best to apply to each job I find thoughtfully and personally. I trust that I’ll be able to obtain employment when the time is right. Who knows how long it will take, but that’s why I felt inspired to prepare every needful thing beforehand so that I can patiently work and wait upon this miracle.

Angels Are Reaching Out to Me

I recently had several angelic experiences. A wonderful coworker of mine named Rachel reached out to me quite out of the blue. I hadn’t spoken to her in three years. But she saw that I was looking for a job, and she encouraged me to apply for a writing job at the company she’s employed at. Then she put in a good word for me. It was an answer to my prayers. We’ll see what happens, but if nothing else it definitely bolstered my courage and helped me to hope.

Not long after that, I could feel my maternal grandmother’s presence. I took a walk in a direction I rarely go, and I found a dime on the ground. Just before my grandma died many years ago, she told my mom that she was giving her a diamond ring. As it turns out, she was just kidding because when my mom opened the present, it had a dime and a plastic ring inside. So it was a dime and ring, not a diamond ring. I suppose that’s where I get my love of clever wordplay from.

In my family, whenever we find a dime on the ground, we think of grandma and feel like she’s thinking of us. This time, not only did I find a dime but I then found a quarter close to it. I had lost a quarter from my pocket not long before that, and I felt bummed about it. So it was like my grandma was telling me that she’s close by and she’s reassuring me that I’ll get back what was lost. Like I said before, there are no coincidences, even when they involve coins.

A Humbling Miracle

This has been a humbling experience for me. Right when I could have considered myself safe and able to spend money frivolously on fun things, I was reminded how precarious sources of income can be. It’s not bad to enjoy things that money can buy, but I feel like that should never be my focus. I’m not meant to be rich in worldly ways or at least to consider myself so.

I put my trust in God, I seek to obey His will in my life, and I am thankful for all the angels around me who bless me in amazing ways. Those are three things I have learned so far from this painful experience. The pain won’t last forever, but the lessons from it will linger for a long time. The miracle that’s currently unfolding is not only getting a new job but becoming a better, humbler man who always puts God first. That takes time, and I’ll do my best to be patient as I work on it.
