I Am So Grateful

The Biblical story of Esther is inspiring. It demonstrates the power of faith. At a critical point in that story, Esther risks her life by entering King Darius’s court without being summoned, an act punishable by death. But she needs to take that chance to save her people from destruction because the king has been manipulated into calling for the extermination of all the Jews in his kingdom of Persia.

Thankfully, the king takes compassion on Esther and immediately pardons her. There’s a sweet little movie, called Esther and the King, which dramatizes these events and adds some wonderful music to it. As soon as Esther’s faith has been vindicated, she walks a few steps away and sings a beautiful song that sums up a lot of my feelings of gratitude to God.

I’ve experienced so many miracles this year. It’s challenging to put them all into words. I’ve seen physical healings, forgiveness of sins, mended relationships that had seemed broken beyond repair, miraculous recoveries from surgery, fixes to the foundation of my house that prevented major disasters I didn’t see coming, protection from terrible storms, and much more.

Like the song says, I am grateful even for the darkest hours because I’ve seen His power to brighten up my nights. God seems to love contrasts. We appreciate the light more when we have to walk through darkness for a time without it.

I haven’t been able to accomplish all of the goals I’ve wanted to reach this year, such as getting to a certain level of savings or publishing my book. But I’ve had more than enough savings for every problem that’s come up, and I have hope that I will find a great publisher for my book.

Whenever we’re tempted to be afraid of our enemies or to fall into despair over the challenges we face, I hope we’ll be like Esther. We can fast, pray, and move forward with faith, knowing that the Lord is with us. Even though we can’t see Him right now, He will not forsake us. That’s enough to make us grateful. Just in time for Thanksgiving.
