Middle Movies Everyone Agrees Are the Best in Their Trilogies

Even though it seems like everyone disagrees on just about every imaginable topic, it’s nice to know that there are at least some things we can all agree upon. Take, for example, movie trilogies. There are a number of them that we can all agree hit their stride with their second entries. Here are seven middle movies that everyone agrees are the best in their respective trilogies. Our Bray-ve New World

Why were many governors and heads of state so quick to shut down their economies over COVID-19? Will things return to normal? Roosh V, of all people, answered these questions in a thoughtful and incisive video.

I had never paid attention to him, though I had heard peripherally that he was a pickup artist and a vain sort of man. But recently I was told that he had done a nearly five-hour presentation in which he lays out his theory on why the COVID-19 quarantine is happening, and I had to see it for myself. It’s a truly mind-boggling experience to watch him methodically explain the answers to the questions above and then lay out the reasons behind those answers. I believe him, not just because he makes so much sense, but also because he is a good man who has humbly found his way back to faith in God. He hit rock bottom a couple of years ago and discovered that his worldly pursuits were not bringing him happiness, which prompted him to have a complete change of heart, like Saul and many other great men in the scriptures.

You can watch the video for yourself at this link. I will strive to show in my own way (through film) the message that he conveys so eloquently. Continue reading

The Deep Message Buried in TMNT 2: The Secret of the Ooze

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze isn’t really well-known as a deep philosophical film. It’s mostly filled with juvenile humor that appealed to me as a child. But upon reflection, I realized that there actually is a kernel of depth to this film hidden in plain sight. It’s right there in the title: The Secret of the Ooze. What is the origin of the Ninja Turtles, and what does it say about their existence? There’s only one scene that properly deals with this subject, and I’d like to share it with you and discuss its huge implications. Continue reading

It’s All Right When Everything Goes Wrong

When times get tough, I try to look on the bright side and count my blessings. I don’t feel so bad about the social distancing and isolation right now in part because the last year has been so hard for me. You see, I had a series of setbacks that were for the best in the end. I’d like to share my experiences with you to demonstrate that hard times often yield positive results. Continue reading

General Beringer Shows How to Trade Insults Like a Boss

When I listed 10 details that elevate WarGames above most thrillers, I criminally left out one of the best characters in the movie, General Beringer. This guy is amazing in every one of his scenes. He has a commanding presence that can’t be ignored, and he’s always so intense and serious that it makes one of his last scenes that much more memorable. He demonstrates the perfect way to deliver and respond to insults. Continue reading

Wreck-It Ralph Sums Up My Feelings on Modern TV Shows

Despite reading all of the available books in the Song of Ice and Fire series, I’ve never watched an episode of Game of Thrones. Despite watching every episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation as a kid and adult, I haven’t seen a single episode of Star Trek: Picard. And despite enjoying many fantasy stories and films, I haven’t felt any desire to check out The Witcher. Something is wrong. Continue reading

What Disease Feels Sorry for Leonardo DiCaprio?

It felt wrong to publish a serious article this week because of the shutdown and worries over the Wuhan virus. I love sharing my thoughts on movies, but this time it just seemed to be besides the point. However, I find that in tough times, a little levity helps a lot. So, in place of a long article, I would like to offer you this quick joke:

What disease feels sorry for Leonardo DiCaprio? Continue reading

It Took Me 33 Years to Get This Subtle Spaceballs Joke

I’ve seen Spaceballs many times, and there’s one joke in it that’s always gone over my head. I couldn’t understand why it was in there or what it meant until this past week when it finally dawned on me, and I had a huge “Oooooh!” moment.

Spaceballs cleverly parodies just about everything in the original Star Wars trilogy from Alderaan to Yoda. But there’s one big detail that I used to think it overlooked. There’s a secret, hidden base in the first two movies: Yavin 4 in Star Wars and Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back. Is there a secret base in Spaceballs? Well, yes, from a certain point of view. You see, there’s a silly scene that used to weird me out as a kid, but that’s because I didn’t understand the joke. Here it is: Continue reading

The Mystery of the One Crazy Rhyme in ‘Mother Knows Best’

I’m not one to obsess over little details, am I? Oh, except for just about every movie I’ve ever written about on this website. Be that as it may, I can’t quite wrap my head around one particular rhyme in the movie Tangled. It comes from the song “Mother Knows Best,” which goes like this: Continue reading
